Some Info about our school.
Been teaching for ourselves for 6 years.
Started off teaching another style, but soon switched to salsa.
Would like to thank the students who have supported them throughout these years.
Over the years they have become more than just students, they’ve become friends with whom they’ve shared many events with, the most important being their wedding day.
This diverse group of people range in ages from 10 – 60 and carries such conditions such as narcolepsy to fused shoulders.
Distance doesn’t seem to be an issue to this group. Since starting in 2001, they’ve had students come from as far as Orange, then last year they had the pleasure of having a Cronulla boy, and just recently they had people coming from Wallerawang and Marangaroo. (Drive for another hour and a half over the mountains and you’re roughly there.)
Been part of Latin Dance Australia for over a year.
Have formed “The Social Side” which is an e-mail list that keeps you informed of any social events they’ve organised west of Parramatta. Past outings have included a weekend away at Oberon and Paintball. Hope to organise a weekend away to Byron Bay for February/March next year.
Looking forward to the first Sydney World Salsa Congress to be held in January.
Intro to Penrith TWAT team.
Our Intermediate/Advanced group from Penrith have stepped outside their comfort zone for this funky shines routine.
Shines = Salsa dancing without a partner, hence you can do whatever you want.
Have had roughly 8 weeks of rehearsal and have never rehearsed with the whole group present.
For many it is their 1st time performing.
They are dancing to a song not heard in a salsa club.
For most people the opportunity to meet Tom Cruise or Nicole Kidman would be overwhelming, but a salsa dancer’s dream is to meet the likes of Al “Liquid Silver” & Josie Neglia. That dream came true for many dancers and dance teachers who attended the 2006 Salsa Congress.
This was a particularly special year for local teachers Ron and Irene French (Bailemos Dance Classes) who, after three years helping to co-ordinate the event, were invited to lead the eighty strong volunteers.
With such a huge crowd this year (well over 7000 people during the three and a half day event) participating in workshops, taking in shows and enjoying the fun and gaiety of the yearly event, Ron and Irene had to call in ten extra volunteers from Bailemos to help out. Of the course they were absolutely thrilled at the rare opportunity to work along side some of the best in the world.
Though extremely busy coordinating the volunteers Ron and Irene, along with many of their teachers, managed to slip in some private lessons and workshops with internationals such as Al “Liquid Silver” Espinoza and Jose Valencia to name a few.
From backstage some volunteers had a birds eye view as renowned dancers such as Ryoko & Ryu from Japan left the crowds spell bound with their aerial feats, flawless synchronization and breath-taking performances.
A great time was had by all but the fun did not end there for Ron and Irene, along with two of their teachers, Lee and Fiona, were invited on a bus tour of Sydney and a boat cruise on Darling Harbour with their idols, after the event. Any one who has met Ron and Irene won’t be surprised to learn that Ron ended up driving the tour bus while Irene devoted herself to teaching our international visitors some good old Australian Slang.
Always a true blue Ron was proud to overhear several of the international dancers - who attend congresses all over the world - claim that the Sydney Salsa Congress is one of the best organised in the world.
So if you’re a dancer, put a mark on next years calendar (25th to 27th January) and if you want to be a dancer get on down to Bailemos Dance classes (1300 368 086)
